Do we need to bring bed linens and towels? We provide bed linens and towels.
What does fully equipped kitchen mean? The kitchen is stocked with standard kitchen items: pots, pans, dishes, utensils, serving pieces, linens, basic dry goods.
Is there a grocery store nearby? The Lost Valley store, just down from us, has many basic items or you may visit a grocery store in Jasper (approx. 17 miles away) or travel into Harrison where there is a Wal-Mart.
Is there phone service in lodge and cabin? There is no cell service at the lodge or cabin. You will need to bring a calling card if you wish to make calls. To reach cell service you will need to go approx. 4 miles up Hwy 43 (to the top of the hill). Only the lodge has a land line and the cabin does not have a phone.
Is there internet service in lodge and cabin? Yes, both the lodge and cabin have wireless internet.
Is firewood provided? Firewood is provided on the deck of the lodge and on the patio of the cabin. Additional firewood can be found under the decks. In the lodge be sure to follow the directions provided to ensure flues are open.
What are local activities? Elk watching, canoeing / kayaking, hiking, photography, picnicking, scenic drives. Visit our Area page for details
Is maid service provided? Maid is not provided. If you wish to have additional services provided please discuss your needs with us.
Alcohol beverages? Dry county? You may bring your own alcoholic beverages, however Newton County is a dry county. Please put any glass bottles in the glass recycling containers provided.
Do you recycle? Yes, we recycle. Everything is accepted – glass, all plastic, paper, metal, cardboard, Styrofoam….
How do I reserve canoes/kayaks? And how close are the river put-ins? You can reserve canoes/kayaks through one of the local outfitters, such as Lost Valley Canoe, we do recommend making reservations well in advance. The closest put-ins are (in order): Ponca low water bridge, Steel Creek, Kyles Landing, Pruitt. The best time of the year to float the Upper Buffalo is April – June. The upper Buffalo is dependent on rainfall.
Do you have a hot tub? Indoor Jacuzzi tubs in lodge and a outdoor hot tub at cabin
Exactly how many beds are in the lodge? There are four queen beds, four double beds, six twin fold out sofas / chairs.
How close is the elk population to the lodge and cabin? The elk population moves around the valley and can be found anywhere from the Ponca low water bridge, back along Hwy 43 to Boxley. At Boxley go left on Hwy 21, Elk can often be seen on either side of the road to the base of the hill.
